After 28 years, Daft Punk are together no more.

As a teenager, when I listened to their music that was full of samples of 70s and 80s disco, funk and pop, they opened the door for me to a whole new world of music that I had never heard before and still love today.

I remember Short Circuit was a favourite of mine on the Discovery album. It’s quite different to the rest of the tracks on there, and at the time I didn’t recognise its roots in 80s electro music. I just knew I liked it. The raw synth lead sounds are also a preview of the kind of sound they would go for in their next album, Human After All.

Daft Punk were not afraid to make artistic choices that pushed the boundaries of genres. Halfway through this track, it completely transforms to a woozy, unsteady electronic pad, slowly breaking up and losing resolution as the name of the track implies. It’s rare to hear dance music that takes risks like this.
